Nature is our life-support system. From the fresh air we breathe to the clean water we drink, nature provides the essentials we all rely on for our survival and well-being. And it also holds the key to our prosperity, with millions of livelihoods and much of our economic activity also depending on the natural world. These immense benefits to humanity, estimated to be worth around US$125 trillion a year, are only possible if we maintain a rich diversity of wildlife.
We know that we are losing nature faster than it can restore itself. And without urgent action, significant harm to people and planet is inevitable: inadequate food and water for our growing global population, significant harm to our economies, and the mass extinction of an estimated one million species.
As we move into recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, it is imperative to address the underlying causes of the outbreak, to ensure we reduce the risk of future pandemics. This is part of a much larger systemic crisis, one in which the relationship between human activities and the natural environment has become toxic. To reduce the risk of zoonotic infectious diseases threatening our health and economic prosperity, we must address our unbalanced relationship with nature. We must change our economic model, and with it address the deep inequality in our society.
For Nature For Us
Humanity's broken relationship with nature comes with a cost. That cost has revealed itself in terrible ways. Loss of lives, loss of jobs, and a shock to our global economy. This pandemic joins a long list of emerging diseases that will continue to undermine global stability unless we fix our relationship with nature.
Together we can ensure the response to this global emergency makes our planet and our communities stronger.

By 2030, we hope to have 50% of land and sea protected, restored, or sustainably managed. In addition we would like to make 50% of production and consumption sustainable and prevent the 6th mass extinction. We must set ourselves on course to be Nature Positive by 2030.
Why does it matter?
We must redouble efforts to deliver current UN agreements on tackling climate change and encouraging sustainable development – the fate of the climate, human development and nature are linked together. We have an unmissable opportunity to shape a better future that puts nature on the path to recovery.
Through 2020 and 2021, world leaders will take key decisions on the environment, climate change and sustainable development that will set the global agenda for the next decade. When they do, it’s vital they prioritise the well-being of both nature and people.
That’s why we’re calling on governments, bolstered by the strong support and the shifting demands of businesses, public, and civil society organisations around the world, to deliver an ambitious New Deal for Nature and People that reverses nature loss and secures a better future for everyone.
A whole-of-society approach is needed, with engagement by sectors driving biodiversity loss. These include the agriculture and food sectors; forestry; fisheries; infrastructure; mining and extractives as well as the financial sector. Action plans are needed for these sectors to innovate and transition to ‘nature-positive’ practices.
Commit and Act for Nature
Companies can commit to protecting and investing in nature, by setting greenhouse gas emissions reductions targets through the Science-Based Targets initiative, and by supporting the Science Based Targets Network, which is developing approaches to help companies set targets for nature. Companies can deliver on commitments by applying Accountability Framework in places that are important for wildlife and biodiversity, especially areas where they operate or from which they source commodities like timber or palm oil.
Advocate for Nature
Companies can present a united business voice for nature and influence decision-makers in key business and policy fora by joining the Business for Nature coalition and supporting its policy recommendations. Educate your networks, lead discussions and debate the issues within your supplier and business to business networks. Promote and engage communities on sustainability issues you are actively working on through success stories and case studies. This global coalition of influential organisations and forward-thinking companies hopes to influence decision-makers and transform the global economy, just as they shaped the Paris Agreement on climate change in 2015. What’s the Nature of Your Business?
In partnership with CGV Viet Nam and Tetra Pak Viet Nam, WWF-Vietnam hosted exclusive screenings of Our Planet, Our Business (OBOP) in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi on 29th October and 5th November respectively, with the attendance of over 350+ corporate representatives. The event was the network’s biggest single engagement of corporates for global OPOB screenings, prompting a sense of both the urgency and opportunity of the New Deal for Nature and People. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to HOST a screening.
JOIN the forces to take action
Vietnam Coalition for Climate Action ( VCCA ) and Viet Nam Corporates Energy Leaders (VCEL) are two platforms established by Vietnamese leaders from businesses, financial institutions, universities, communities and civil societies. While VCCA focuses on driving the implementation of green, safe, sustainable solutions with reasonable expenses and effectiveness for Vietnamese citizens, VCEL intiniative is supporting companies to overcome key barriers and access cost-effective renewable energy options. We encourage companies to join the coalitions to share, learn and take actions together for corporates’ role is vital in delivering the Paris Agreement and ensuring a climate-safe future for all.
