Residing on the Upper Viet Nam Mekong Delta (VMD), stretching along the border of Viet Nam and Cambodia are the wetlands that are fundamental for flood regulations and ecological sustainability of the entire delta.
One of the key areas of the Upper VMD is the Long Xuyen Quadrangle, a nearly 500,000 hectares region (including An Giang province and part of Can Tho City). This area This area supports a diverse array of ecosystems such as floodplains, hilly forests and freshwater lakes, which are interconnected and provide many essential ecosystem services including:
These vital ecosystems are under increasing pressure from climate change and unsustainable anthropogenic practices.

To address the mentioned issues, the project Showcasing Nature-Based Solutions that Restore Wetlands and the Natural Processes of the Mekong Delta (Mekong NbS) is implemented by WWF-Viet Nam in collaboration with An Giang Province’s People Committee, the Department of Agriculture and Environment with funding from Industria De Diseno Textil, SA (“Inditex”) through WWF-International.
The goal of the project is to enhance climate adaptation, conserve biodiversity, and develop sustainable livelihoods in the Mekong Delta through nature-based solutions (NbS) in the restoration of hilly forests, wetlands, and floodplains, and to contribute to the implementation of Resolution 120/NQ-CP and the Mekong Delta Regional Planning 2021-2030, vision 2050.
