Tam Ky City, April 19, 2023 - On 19 April, Quang Nam Forest Protection Department and local Forest Management Boards signed an agreement for cooperation on implementing regulations for forest management and protection, development, and biodiversity conservation. This event marks an important step towards enhancing the effectiveness of forest protection and biodiversity conservation through collaboration between specialized forest guards and forest rangers.
                                   
The Biodiversity Conservation component under the Sustainable Forest Management and Biodiversity Conservation in Viet Nam (VFBC) project is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Component has supported the establishment of an efficient information-sharing mechanism and coordination framework between the specialized forest guards and the local forest ranger to enhance the effectiveness of forest protection and biodiversity conservation in project site.
 
The VFBC Project Management Board in Quang Nam Province has proactively worked with relevant stakeholders to facilitate the enforcement of Decision No. 379/QD-SNN&PTNT. This decision, issued by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Nam Province, outlines coordination between forest guards and forest rangers on implementing forest management, protection, development, and nature conservation regulations at the grassroots level.
 
Mr. Tu Van Khanh, Deputy Director of Quang Nam Forest Protection Department and Deputy Head of the VFBC Project Management Board in Quang Nam Province, emphasized the significance of the coordination model, stating, “It will enhance forest protection capacity and law enforcement in forestry, as well as strengthen task supervision between the specialized forest guards and forest rangers. Furthermore, the model will ensure efficient implementation of regulations, policies, and laws pertaining to forest protection and development, while actively involving the local community in these efforts.”
 
In addition, the VFBC Project Management Board in Quang Nam Province provided equipment to the forest management boards and forest ranger units in the project area to support implementation of the Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART). This initiative aims to enhance the effectiveness of forest protection patrols at the local level.
